CREATIVE BIBLE JOURNALING (FAQs)

Q: What is Creative Bible Journaling?

Creative Bible Journaling is the inclusion of drawing and art in representing and expressing God’s word. Being visual beings, capturing visuals increases depth and understanding. It is what I would refer to as “aggressively” interacting with Scripture.

Q: Who can engage in Creative Bible Journaling?

✔Anyone who loves God and His word.

✔Anyone with a Bible.

✔Anyone who is keen on exploring and discovering creative ways to delight.

⚠You do not need to be artistic. It is all about flexibility, learning, and practice.

Q: What do I need?

Supplies can include but are not limited to:

Basics: A Bible, pen, coloring pencils, and highlighters

Bonus supplies: Watercolor and brushes, washi tape, stickers

Q: Do I need a reason to begin Creative Bible Journaling?

For any undertaking, a strong “why” is crucial in helping one stay on course. Reasons to begin are dependent on motive. The most important reason remains to be scripture engagement. Is it for private devotion? private worship? Or is it a creative outlet? Personally, all are embedded in one goal and purpose and are interlinked. This is to be kept in view at all times

Q: Is it after or before Bible Study?

Creative Bible Journaling follows an in-depth study of the word. It is complimentary. The goal isn’t to have colorful pages. It is to hammer in truths of God’s word. Bible Study prompts include: What does the text mean? What is the context? What are the definitions of keywords? What are the cross-references?

It is an error to focus on colorful pages and ignore the goal which is for our hearts to be ministered to by the life-transforming word of God.

Q: Where do I start?

  • Pray over the Word
  • Study
  • Choose a Scripture to focus on
  • Identify the keywords do you want to focus on
  • Visualize: Is there a way you would love to represent? Is it lettering? Is it drawing? Is it painting?

🟡Always give room for adjustments and flexibility as you go.

Q: Is there a practical step-by-step tip?

✔Identify space. Is it a margin? Is it on the letters? Are you adding a sow in sheet?

✔Trace with a pencil (advisable as you begin to give room for possible alterations)

✔After tracing, line it with a pen of preferred color choice

✔Color if you had a drawing

✔Accessorize. Add stickers or sticky notes or washi tapes

Q: Why should I be interested in exploring Creative Bible Journaling? Are there benefits?

  • It easily sticks to our memory since we are visual beings. As it is often said, a picture is worth a thousand words.
  • They become a form of simple, shortened prayers.
  • It narrows down concentration and our focus since we are able to mull over a text extensively
  • It helps in calling important phrases to mind.
  • It allows our creativity to flow
  • It becomes a map for our spiritual journey
  • It can be a form of legacy. I have seen some who have begun creative journaling and incorporated prophetic revelations and milestones to give to their children and significant others
