Matthew 5:7 "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy."
Job 6:14 "To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend...."
James 2:15-20 - Matthew 18:20

Like the meek, as earlier seen, it appears as a ridiculous thing to desire. The merciful, yet again, in our crooked and perverse world equals to those who have no power, those easily stepped over and their merciful nature is ascribed to weakness.

Lamentations 3:22 “Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” We live under the mercy of God on a daily basis. We are undeserving of it yet we still receive it. As a result, we should equally accord it to brethren on a daily. Being human, we tend to feel justified with our choices because we rely on previous counts when we have extended mercy yet God doesn’t keep us on a timer. He offers us new opportunities to make it right with Him.

Col 3:12  “….therefore as the beloved of God, put on tender mercies.

Forgiveness as a type of mercy.

Forgiveness can be seen as an example/ type of mercy. Matthew 18:21-35 tells the story of the unforgiving servant who was a receiver of mercy yet failed to extend it to the one who owed him much less that he owed his master who forgave him. The extent to which we receive should inspire us to equally extend it. The best definition of mercy that I have ever come across is that mercy is standing before someone who deserves punishment, and then throwing them a party instead. How ridiculously beautiful is that? Yet it is only through the full appreciation of God’s unchanging love towards that we can extend it to others. The merciful are patient with the faults of others and are not quick to condemn of cast out. (Ephesians 4:2 NLT)

“When we consider the staggering debt Jesus forgave for us and the comparative smallness of the debts others have towards us, it is base ingratitude for us not to forgive them.”

God’s children reflect His mercy and are therefore merciful themselves. If anyone has a complaint against one another, even as Christ forgave so you must do (Colossians 3:13 ; Matthew 6:12; Ephesians 4:32) . God offers us forgiveness even when we do not ask for it. He waits on us. He doesn’t treat us any different because He remembers our sins no more once we come back to Him. The pile of our sins has been labelled with a No fishing sign as my Bishop, Bishop Masinde would say (Hebrews 10:17)

Compassion as a type of mercy.

The merciful are those who are sensitive to the suffering of people, they are moved with compassion upon the ordeals of others. They are not moved by vengeance even though they may have been wronged because they have exercised forgiveness. They are true representations of Galatians 6:2 who help in bearing the burden of others.

In this world of “self” and “survival for the fittest”, Kingdom citizens are invited to rise and show mercy and not to be onlookers. To actively lend a hand as illustrated in (James 2:15) because in so doing, you are extending it to the Father (Matthew 25:34-40).

Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called sons of God.
Psalms 120:7 ; Ephesians 2:11

Peace is a gift we will always be in need of, with all the chaos that accompany our daily life.   The peace we enjoy from God is the unmatched peace that the world can never comprehend; it surpasses all understanding yet this peace referred to in this case is the peace we bring about to the people around us by our way of life.

“Peace here is not the inward, individual peace of mind which accompanies humble confident trust in God’s love, but a peace which characterizes the community.” Wright

A peace maker is someone who thrives in seeing unity and does not rejoice over division; a peaceful person understands that blessings are released where there is unity (Psalms 133).  A peace maker is a man who labors for the public good. A peace maker does not stand for division and is always making efforts to pursue peace and reconciliation among brethren for himself(Romans 12:18)  and the common good of all. (1 Peter 3:8 ; 1 Corinthians 1:10)

Peace is not tangible. However, to be referred to as a peacemaker or a propagator of one, it will be evident in deeds and in speech. Speech that is seasoned with salt, (Colossians 4:6) speech that is edifying. The kind that does not slander against their neighbor (Psalms 15:3). The kind that is sweet like honey (Proverbs 16:24) The kind that imparts grace (Ephesians 4:29)

Jehovah Shalom ; He is the God of peace.  Since God has declared himself reconcilable to us all through Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:19), He requires that those who are His be peace makers as well. The Gospel we preach and live under is a Gospel of peace because of the reconciliation offered to us, it would be hypocritical to claim to live by it and yet act contrary to it in regards to how we relate to others.

Let us be merciful and be carriers of God’s peace exhibiting His love in every space we go into that we may rejoice in the gift of sonship. Let love, the perfect bond of unity lead in every way (Colossians 3:14)

You are light and you are so loved. Stay anchored and keep His light shining through.

  1. Found this definition of mercy; That is to be inconvenienced for another.

And being a peacemaker makes one such a unique and expensive person( I just thought of Kofi Annan and the unique position he was in)
