I’m trusting and praying,
I’m hoping and looking,
I’m asking, seeking, and knocking
But I can’t see an answer yet,
In pain, I find I am in the fire,
And as I stand and wait,
There is another in the fire.
In the anger and bewilderment,
In questioning and doubt,
In hurt and discouragement,
In lack, morsels, and loss,
In the testing of faith,
In the dissertation and bombardment,
In the storm and tempest,
Unsure of friend or foe,
There in the furnace,
There is another in the fire.
In abandonment and cold,
In the midnight hour of despair,
In discouraging thoughts,
When all fingers point in accusation,
I remember your promises,
They are a balm of healing to the soul,
There I realize, there is another with me in the fire.
Where friends are rare,
Where opportunities are scarce,
Where supplies are short,
Where comfort has run out,
Where the world crashes in around me,
I stand steadfast through your power,
For there is another with me in the fire.
When fears assail and assault,
Surrounded by the fire and the flood,
Where night does not break,
Walking on eggshells and on the edge,
I see you are my anchor,
Making my steps certain,
For there is another with me in the fire.
Where words cut like blades,
When I cannot see the way ahead,
Even when in the mire and the clay,
Even when nothing holds together,
I remember your words- you will never leave nor forsake,
I know, there is another with me in the fire.
In oppression and rights snatched,
When my prayers are not answered,
When abandoned, and cursed in the face,
When I am beaten – like a ping pong,
When sickness ravages the body
When death snatches loved ones,
I know in my heart,
There is always another with me in the fire.
Here I stand and testify,
That not for a moment was I left alone
Your word rang in my ears,
Your promises guard my heart,
Your song sang in my soul,
The darkness could not extinguish the light,
For in all circumstances,
You are with us in the fire,
Assured, there is always another with us in the fire.
